Upgrade SoftRAID 5 Lite to SoftRAID 6 Pro for Mac and Windows SoftRAID is the most powerful, intuitive software RAID utility on the market. Multiple RAID levels let you select the RAID level that fits you or your project’s needs best.
SoftRAID Lite comes to the rescue, restoring software mirroring (RAID 1) and striping (RAID 0) functionality to the Mac, while adding the advanced disk health monitoring of the SoftRAID engine. SoftRAID XT - is the full featured 'pro' version that will only run on drives inside an OWC Thunderbay enclosure. SoftRAID XT Lite - is the free, feature limited version of the application that is also restricted to drives placed in a Thunderbay enclosure. Ultimately, I upgraded to the 'best' version, simply called SoftRAID. SoftRAID Lite is a replacement for Apple's Disk Utility RAID. SoftRAID Lite is based the full SoftRAID engine, with the only limitations being that SoftRAID Lite supports only RAID levels 0 (stripe) and 1 (Mirror) volumes, and does not have email notification or the command line interface. Tecchnical support for SoftRAID Lite is available on the SoftRAID forum.
OWC has released SoftRAID Lite and Lite XT for Windows.
This is the first time SoftRAID is available for Windows users for US$49.99, who now have a cross-platform solution and can share RAID volumes between OSes. Users who have previously purchased SoftRAID 5 Lite XT with their OWC solution will receive this Windows edition for free. Also, a demo is available for download.
SoftRAID is RAID software platform that maximizes drive capacity, offers faster performance, and protects against data loss. The folks at OWC says that new licensing of SoftRAID now enables an unlicensed version of SoftRAID to still read/write RAID volumes, making it easier to move them between different computers and locations.
Version 5.8.4:Softraid Lite Xt Upgrade
New features:
Softraid Lite Windows
- Adds a feature which warns the user if Secure Boot is enabled. This warning appears when the SoftRAID application is first launched, Secure Boot is enable and a SoftRAID disk is attached.
- Adds ability to sign up for the SoftRAID News email list.
- Adds a work-around for a kernel panic bug which was introduced in macOS 10.15. This bug causes a kernel panic when an HFS+ volume is created on a 4Kn HDD (a disk with 4 KB sectors) which is housed in a USB 3 or USB 3.1 enclosure.
- Adds support for OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual U2 enclosures to SoftRAID XT and SoftRAID Lite XT.
Softraid Lite Mac
Bugs fixed:
Softraid Lite Windows
- Fixes a bug which could prevent the Mac from restarting after uninstalling SoftRAID.
- Fixes a bug which caused the SoftRAID application to be relaunched after a restart when the user had just uninstalled SoftRAID.
- Adds code to ensure that SSDs are always the primary disks in RAID 1+0 volumes which contain equal numbers of SSDs and HDDs. This code gets run when RAID 1+0 volumes are created and at the end of a RAID 1+0 volume rebuild.
